Nicole Linkletter was born in the tiny town of Grand Forks, North Dakota, on February 27, 1986. A clean-living country girl from the very start, she graduated from Grand Forks Red River High School in 2003 before packing her bags to study marketing at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud Minnesota.
Nicole likely would have gone on attending classes and rooting for the Huskies were it not for her gnawing desire to become an international fashion model. "I had dreamed of being a model since I was a little kid,” she admits, and luckily for her, America’s Next Top Model gave her the opportunity to live that dream.

Nicole applied to be a participant on the glamorous UPN reality show in 2005 and was delighted when she was selected from thousands of other girls later on that year. Although America’s Next Top Model turned out to be the perfect showcase for her inner and outer beauty, it wasn’t without its trying moments. In particular, Nicole was forced to endure plenty of harsh criticism from the show’s celebrity judges. “That was hard because during panel you kind of get brought down sometimes,” she admits. “It's hard when you don't have your people there to bring you up again.”
She also had to put up with some intense infighting from her fellow contestants. “I’m sure a lot of us regret some of the things we said, because they were kind of unfair,” she says. “It’s all just insecurity. You’re stressed out, and it’s just the old thing where you bring someone else down to make yourself feel better.”

Fortunately, it all paid off in the end. After several grueling weeks of photo shoots and fashion shows, Nicole beat out Erika “Nik” Pace to be crowned America’s Next Top Model. "Oh, my god," she said at the time. "This is not happening. I was always the girl who, like, never really got that much attention, and now here I am... a CoverGirl... my life is beginning right now!"
In addition to giving her ultimate bragging rights, Nicole’s win was also accompanied by a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, a fashion spread in ELLE magazine, the cover of ELLEgirl magazine and a contract with Ford Models, the same agency that represents Christie Brinkley, Jerry Hall and Rachel Hunter.

nicole kick starts her modeling career
In 2006, Nicole left Ford and signed with Elite Model Management. In retrospect, she admits that the best part of the experience was, “Just meeting everyone that we met. Totally. We met so many great people.” Those same “great people” have also helped open many doors for her. Since winning the competition, Nicole has appeared in fashion spreads in a dozen magazines including In Touch and ELLE, and she’s strutted her stuff in runway shows for designers such as Gharani Strok and Alice & Olivia.
